The Hague Challenge 1: How can Digital Day Programs enhance well-being?

Individuals under the Social Support Act (WMO) often lack structured, meaningful daily activities, particularly those who are socially isolated or have limited mobility. This lack of engagement can contribute to feelings of loneliness, reduced quality of life, and social exclusion. Day programs play a crucial role in addressing these challenges.

Therefore, the Municipality  of Hague seeks remote, accessible digital solutions offering a diverse range of daily activities to promote mental and physical engagement among individuals in need. These “Digital Day Programs” also contribute to enhancing their overall well-being and sense of community. While a digital solution is sought, co-creation with the target group is essential, requiring accessible venues and facilitation in the local language, Dutch.

This challenge scheme operates as a contest, and if the pilot is successful, the city may procure or further develop the solution without initiating a new tender.

The Municipality of Hague will host one pilot in collaboration with its residents.

The Hague Challenge 2: How can MaaS enable better transportation services?

Marginalized communities often face significant transportation challenges, including limited access to affordable and flexible transportation options. This restricts their ability to access essential services, employment, and social activities. While the Municipality of Hague provides mobility services and assistive technologies under the Social Support Act, these services are often inflexible and do not meet the diverse needs of marginalized communities.

Thus, the Municipality of the Hague is seeking a comprehensive platform that integrates various transportation services into a single, user-friendly solution. In essence, the city aims to implement a Mobility as a Service (MaaS) model. The platform should address the specific needs of marginalized communities, providing them with reliable, inclusive, and affordable mobility options to improve their overall quality of life. When developing the MaaS platform, co-creation with the target group is essential, requiring accessible venues and facilitation in the local language, Dutch.

Current assistive technologies such as mobility scooters, walkers, etc are often limited in functionality, affordability, or accessibility and there is little innovation in the space.

The Municipality of The Hague is seeking modern, innovative assistive technology solutions that enhance mobility for marginalized individuals. The goal is to create devices or systems that are user-friendly, affordable, and effective in improving the mobility of individuals with physical impairments. This will enhance the quality of life for these individuals, enabling greater independence and social participation.
