Sant Boi de Llobregat Challenges

During the third round of CommuniCity Open Calls, the Municipality of  Sant Boi de LLobregat presented three challenges. Open and Agile Smart Cities & Communities (OASC) will award grants of up to 12,500 Euros to a maximum of three applicants. You can find the challenges below, along with evaluation criteria and details about the pilot host. If you have questions, please join the Info Events or check the Q&A section. Furthermore, before submitting your application, review the tips for a successful application on the “Read this first” page.

Sant Boi de Llobregat Challenge 1: How to promote sustainable transport habits among minors and their families?

In Sant Boi, a significant portion of students’ school commutes involve private vehicles. This contributes to traffic congestion, air pollution, and a lack of physical activity. Additionally, many students who walk to school are accompanied by adults due to parental safety concerns and a lack of trust in their children’s independence. These factors hinder the development of student autonomy.

The City of Sant Boi is looking for any technology solutions that can help the Municipality to promote sustainable transport. The objective is to use innovative technologies to encourage behavioral and perceptual shifts towards more sustainable transportation modes like walking, biking, or scootering especially among minors.

The Municipality of Sant Boi will host one pilot in collaboration with the Equipment and Educational Promotion Unit in primary school.

Sant Boi de Llobregat Challenge 2: How can a technology solution help isolated young people

The experience of the COVID pandemic highlighted and exacerbated the number of adolescents and young people who live in isolation. These young people struggle to connect with peers and often experience feelings of insecurity and reluctance to socialize. This situation negatively impacts young people’s mental health, personal growth, education, future career prospects, self-perception, self-esteem, and social skills.

Sant Boi City Council is looking for  technology solutions that allow the creation of safe and trustworthy environments where young people can interact, explore, and engage in activities outside their homes.

Sant Boi de Llobregat Challenge 3: How can minors with mental health issues be supported?

The COVID-19 pandemic forced administrations to create services for young people facing mental and emotional health issues. During this time, young people also faced challenges with transitioning to adulthood. Many other factors can impact young people’s mental health, including migration, poverty, harassment, and discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation, or emotional identity. Therefore the need for support is increasing, and local services may not always be able to provide immediate in-person care. Additionally, not all young people prefer in-person care.

The Sant Boi City Council is seeking digital solutions to provide enhanced emotional support resources for young people. These solutions should be open-minded and not limited to interactions between local public administration professionals and young people.
