Bruges Challenge 1: How to engage young migrants in city planning?

Public space policy is instrumental in a city’s overall success. The City of Bruges places a strong emphasis on citizen engagement in urban development initiatives. While the city values diverse participation, young people, particularly those with migrant backgrounds, are often underrepresented. Nevertheless, young people often perceive public spaces as their primary social and recreational environments. Therefore, they should be actively involved in public space planning.

The city of Bruges is looking for technological solutions to easily reach young people and engage them in participation projects around public space. The overall aim is for all young residents of Bruges to have equal opportunities to express their ideas, regardless of background, abilities, or circumstances.

The Youth Department of the City of Bruges will host one pilot with the target group.
