Aarhus Challenges

During the third round of CommuniCity Open Calls, there is one challenge presented by the Municipality of Aarhus. Open and Agile Smart Cities & Communities (OASC) will grant up to 12,500 Euros to one applicant. You will find the Aarhus challenge below, together with evaluation criteria and details about the pilot host.

Aarhus Challenge 1: How can youth interaction with public authorities be more inclusive?

Despite being labeled as “digital natives,” many young people struggle to navigate interactions with public authorities. This includes vulnerable youth facing multiple challenges as well as young individuals entering the workforce requiring knowledge of taxes, MitID, and other public services. Furthermore, this lack of familiarity with public services can hinder civic engagement and erode trust in governmental institutions. A well-informed citizenry is essential for maintaining a cohesive society.

The City of Aarhus is looking for a solution that can provide citizen services for children and make the municipality’s information more accessible, understandable, and personal. The solution should be tailored specifically to young people aged 13-18, their parents, educators, and other caregivers. It should provide a guided experience segmented by age and consider language and cultural diversity. Machine learning or other types of artificial intelligence should be included in the solution in order to create more responsive, effective, and equitable services for young citizens.

The Department of Children and Young people and Department of Citizen Service and Libraries will host in collaboration one pilot in Aarhus. The challenge is run in collaboration with TechCircle – the European Digital Innovation Hub of Central Denmark – and co-funded by the European Union and Danish Board of Business Development.
